With social media being an increasingly popular mode of communication, Twitter wars and Facebook rants are becoming more common; especially among celebrities. Part of the fun (and the sense of retribution) is being able to skewer someone in front of their friends and followers without having a physical confrontation. That’s ostensibly why more parent/step-parent rivalries are being played out online.
Such was the case between LeAnn Rimes and Brandi Glanville. Rimes is the country music superstar who famously had an affair with Glanville’s husband, Eddie Cibrian. Rimes (who was also married during the affair) and Cibrian divorced their spouses and married each other. Rimes and Cibrian now live together along with the two children from his previous relationship with Glanville.
Because of the sordid relationship that essentially ruined her marriage, Glanville is not a big fan of LeAnn Rimes and their relationship has hardly been cordial. The latest rift in their relationship came when Rimes tweeted: “Flying out with my boys in a few hours. Love that it’s a family tour weekend. It’s always more fun when they are with me.” Glanville responded by tweeting: Someone is trying 2 get under my skin by calling MY children “her boys” So transparent! They R MY boys, Eddie Boys and ur step-sons… 4 now.”
It is certainly understandable that Glanville would be upset. After all, a step-parent calling another’s children “hers” certainly amounts to fighting words. Nevertheless, Twitter wars are essentially public shouting matches, and kids can easily be affected.
While it may be very tempting to do, parents should avoid social media to air their frustrations about other parents.
